IPC media

1) Who owns IPC Media?
IPC Media is owned by a company called Time-Warner.

2) What other 'entertainment' interests does this company own?
Time-Warner has a large range of entertainment interests, including websites such as AOL.com and People.com. They also own TV channels such as CNN and Sky. They also own Warner-Brothers, which is at the front of every aspect of the entertainment industry.

3) Why might this company have bought IPC Media? Benefits?
Time-Warner may have bought IPC Media because they may have known that magazines were still going to be popular today. They may noticed that magazines were broadening their distribution of media, so they decided to invest in the company. Since IPC Media owns such a large range of the Magazine Market with over 80 different titles. Time-Warner may have wanted to include Magazine’s in their company, since before they only owned TV channels and websites.

4) Are there potential drawbacks for the consumer/society when big corporations own a large share of the media market?
There are a few drawbacks of a company such as Time-Warner owning such a large market share of the media market. For example if IPC Media owns a large part of the Magazine market, then they can dictate the prices, because there isn’t any competition from elsewhere.
